Hunt for Jama Masjid gunmen intensified

New Delhi : Delhi Police on Monday intensified hunt for the two gunmen, who had fired at Taiwanese tourists in a daring attack near Jama Masjid in Old Delhi on Sunday.

Even as police failed to get any lead so far, a purported email by Indian Mujahideen owned the responsibility for the attack.

Police were investigating the source of the mail, sent to a broadcasting house.

Police were also probing the incident in which a crude bomb exploded in a car near the Jama Masjid, shortly after the firing.

On Monday, Police threw heavy security near all monuments and iconic buildings in the capital, besides strengthening vigil over the Commonwealth Games stadiums.

The two injured Taiwanese nationals, Zeseweiu Ku and Chiang Khe were immediately rushed to the Lok Nayak Jaiprakash (LNJP) Hospital, where Home Minister P Chidambaram visited to inquire about their condition. They are now said to be in stable condition.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said, “I want to appeal to everybody not to panic. The Police commissioner is in touch with me. The moment they are nabbed he will let me know.”
