India remembers Indira, Sardar Patel
India on Sunday remembered two of its tallest leaders ? former prime minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary and former Union minister and ?Iron Man of India? Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birthday.
President Pratibha Patil, Vice-President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh paid homage to late Indira Gandhi on her 26th death anniversary at her ?samadhi? at Shakti Sthal here.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi, party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar also paid floral tributes at the Shakti Sthal.
Tribute ceremonies were organized in other parts of the country also.
The former prime minister was assassinated by her bodyguards on October 31, 1984.
Sardar Patel was also remembered on his 135th birthday anniversary across the country.
The Prime Minister paid floral tributes at the portrait of Patel at the Central Hall of Parliament House.
The Lok Sabha Speaker, along with several Union ministers and members of Parliament, were also present.
