Kharagpur (West Bengal) : The alleged mastermind in the Jnaneswari Express train disaster, which claimed some 150 lives last year, has been arrested from a forested area in West Midnapore district, police said Monday.
Superintendent of Police (West Midnapore) M K Verma said the main suspect, identified as Bablu Rana, was nabbed from Indraboni forest near Manikpara under Jhargram Police Station on Monday.
Rana has been accused of removal of the pandrol clips, that hold train track together, to cause the derailment of the Jnaneswari Express and its subsequent collision with a goods train between Kehmasoli and Sardiha stations on the Kharagpur-Tatanagar section on May 28, 2010.
The train accident took more than 150 lives.
Police said arrangements are being made to produce him before a court of law by the day.
With the latest arrest, altogether 19 accused have been under police net and four more still at large in the case.
