Kapil Sibal is new Telecom Minister

Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal on Monday was appointed the new Telecom Minister after A Raja resigned from the portfolio over the 2G spectrum allocation scam on Sunday night.

According to ministry sources, Sibal was given charge of the additional portfolio due to his ‘clean political image’.

DMK leader Raja stepped down on Sunday night after being advised by party boss and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi, whose effort to save the Union Minister finally failed.

The Government’s auditor, the Comptroller of Auditor General, had blamed Rajar for costing the exchequer nearly Rs. 1.76 lakh crore by undervaluing 2G spectrum in 2008.
