Ranchi : Eight security personnel were injured Monday when Maoists set off landmines in Jharkhand’s Giridih district, police said.
The attack took place near Dholkatta village when security forces were conducting an operation to free four people abducted by Maoists, a police official told IANS.
The security personnel were in a vehicle at the time of the blasts.
Two of the injured security personnel were said to be in serious condition.
Maoists abducted five people in Giridih Saturday but later freed the driver of their vehicle.
Three of the abducted people were members of the Prime Minister’s Rural Development Fellowship Programme.
Maoists are active in 18 of the 22 districts of the state.
