Mamata meets Pranab, invites Congress to join govt

West Bengal’s chief minister in waiting Mamata Banerjee on Saturday night met Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee at his south Kolkata residence after her historic election victory over the communists and invited Congress party to join the new government.

Trinamool Congress and Congress fought the assembly polls in West Bengal in alliance and defeated the Left Front ending their 34-year-long regime.

Congress is yet to take a decision on joining the government.

Mamata also informed that she would go to New Delhi herself and invite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress supremo and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to attend her swearing-in ceremony in Kolkata.

Mamata Banerjee had a 50-minute meeting with Pranab Mukherjee and end of it said she was highly commended by Mukherjee.

“He said we have done a miracle,” Mamata said.
