Man (Suresh Thakur) hurls slipper at Suresh Kalmadi
A man allegedly tried to throw a slipper at Suresh Kalmadi, who has been arrested over Commonwealth Games (CWG) scam, while he was being taken to the court on Tuesday.
According to reports, a man identified as Suresh Thakur from Madhya Pradesh, hurled a slipper at Kalmadi, as he was about to enter the Patiala House court in Delhi.
The slipper missed him as he was surrounded by a group of policemen.
Thakur was immediately detained and was taken away for questioning.
However, Kalmadi could not stop smiling at the incident, said people present outside the court.
The CBI, who is likely to ask for a 14-day remand of the sacked chief of CWG organising committee to interrogate him on the Timer scam, claims to be armed with ?fresh evidences? against him.
The CBI arrested Kalmadi on Monday.
“The CBI has arrested the then Chairman of OC of Commonwealth Games-2010 for conspiracy to cause favour to a private firm based in Switzerland in awarding the contract for Timing, Scoring and Result system at an inflated cost of Rs 141 crore,” CBI spokesperson Dharni Mishra told reporters on Monday evening.
Kalmadi has reportedly been arrested under Sections 120 B and 420 (criminal conspiracy and cheating) of the Indian Penal Code in the CWG Time Scoring Equipment scam.
However, right to information (RTI) activist Subhash Chandra Agrawal said Kalmadi’s arrest had come too late and was perhaps designed to give him time to tamper evidence.
He said charging Kalmadi on the smallest of the charges against him suggested “a drama to pacify public-anger” against the massive swindle.
Agrawal also said that with RTI, he had procured documents that suggested links between Congress’ Kalmadi and the BJP. He said that it was imperative that the role of BJP leaders in the CWG scam should also be probed.
“It was BJP?s Vijay Kumar Malhotra who not only proposed Suresh Kalmadi as IOA Chief, but even advocated giving him full power to nominate IOA Executive Committee,” said the activist, citing a document procured under the RTI Act.
Hours after his arrest, the Congress MP from Pune was also sacked from party membership.
