Srinagar : Security forces gunned down a separatist guerrilla of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit in a gun battle in Kashmir, a police officer said Wednesday.
The incident occurred in south Kashmir Tuesday.
“Acting on specific information about the presence of an armed militant in village Kujjar, Kulgam, the Yaripora police, under whose jurisdiction the area falls, along with 1st Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel launched a joint search operation in the area. During the search, militants opened fire on the search party, triggering an encounter,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
“One militant was killed in the encounter (gun battle) Tuesday evening. The slain militant was later identified as Showkat Ahmad Tak,” the statement said.
