Mir welcomes Kashmir peace initiative
Srinagar : Welcoming the Centre’s eight-point peace formula on Kashmir, Democratic (Nationalist) Party leader G H Mir said on Tuesday that the initiatives would help restore preople’s confidence.
He also warned that the proposed package must be implemented in letter and spirit or else people would not believe in the governance.
” These measures would help restore confidence among people,” Mir, the Agriculture Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, said.
“This is a historic move by all to resolve the political issues of the state,” he said adding, the Centre must make initiative to chalk out a broad base employment opportunity for the youth of the valley.
Mir also appealed to the expert group for job plan process, which is headed by former RBI Governor C Rangarajan, to take steps so that the measure was implemented at the earliest.
The Union government announced a package of measures last week for restoring confidence of the people over the governance.
Meanwhile, curfew remained in force for the 17th day in Srinagar and six other towns while elsewhere in the Kashmir valley restrictions under section 144 Cr P c remained imposed as a precautionary measure.
Police said curfew continued in Srinagar where people had been requested to remain indoors and not violate the restrictions.
The curfew relaxation period in Srinagar passed off peacefully on Monday with no report of any major untoward incident.
Curfew was being strictly imposed from Natipora crossing to Nowgam road and people alleged that more than six persons were arrested by security forces from their houses on Tuesday.
The situation in the downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) was different as people remained confined to their homes and nobody was being allowed to move out by the security forces deployed on the main and inner roads.
Curfew restrictions also continued in apple township of Sopore in Baramulla district and in Kupwara town, Trehgam and Kralpora in the frontier district of Kupwara.
Kangan and Ganderbal, a stronghold of ruling National Conference (NC), also remained under curfew.
Elsewhere in the valley, restrictions under section 144 CrPc were being strictly imposed as a precautionary measure.
