Mumbai Airport to close for reconstruction work

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport will remain closed starting Saturday (today) and the next two Saturdays for five hours each for reconstruction work, an official said.Accordingly, no flight will take off or land between 11.30a.m.-4.30 p.m., starting this Saturday (today) and next two Saturdays — March 3 & 10.

However, no flight disruptions or passenger inconvenience are expected, as all airlines have been notified at least three months ago on the airport closure schedule.

While some airlines have rescheduled flights, some have cancelled a few of their services, others have clubbed their services to minimize the impact on traveling public.

During the closure period, considered lean traffic hours, the intersection of the two cross-runways will not be available for the ongoing reconstruction works, an official said.

The work includes installation of lights on the runway to guide aircraft on the ongoing construction of the rapid exit taxiway.

The Directorate-General of Civil Aviation has granted permission for carrying out the reconstruction works to the Mumbai International Airport Ltd.
