Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Saturday said there was no difference in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over her tweet that with the Prime Minister owning his responsibility over the apppointment of P J Thomas as the Chief Vigilance Commissioner the matter should rest at that.
“There is no difference in the party over my tweet [which says the matter ends there]. On Twitter you could only put 140 characters, so I did not elaborate futher,” she said, amid reports that her soft approach to the PM on the matter of CVC’s appointment was not the unanimous decision of the BJP.
Swaraj said since the Prime Minister himself said he would make a statement in Parliament, she trusted him.
On Friday after the PM’s admission of responsibility over the CVC appointment, Swaraj tweeted: “I think this is enough. Let matters rest at this and we move forward.”
“I appreciate the statement of the Prime Minister owning responsibility for the appointment of CVC which has been quashed by Supreme Court,” she posted.
In a stinging rebuke of the Prime Minister, the Supreme Court on Thursday nullified the appointment of P J Thomas as the CVC, the top anti-corruption watchdog of India, for his past corruption cases in Kerala, and said the panel headed by the PM which chose Thomas had faulted.
Swaraj was on the panel and she had opposed the appointment.
