No trace of collector R Vineel Krishna in Orissa

Bhubaneswar : Maoists, who abducted Malkangiri Collector R V Krishna and an engineer, are still unresponsive to the Orissa government’s offer suspending all anti-insurgent operations for freedom of the IAS offer.

Government sources said on Friday that they had not been able to contact either any of the kidnapped officials or the abductors since the crime committed on Wednesday.

Instead, reports from the rebel dominated Malkangiri said the Maoist guerrillas severed road links by digging earth and felling trees to create a fortress type zone in the region, where many believe the captives were taken.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday ordered suspension of all anti-Maoist operations in the state to pave way for safe release of the two persons including junior engineer Pabitra Majhi.

The rebels had set 48-hours deadline since the abduction.

The Maoists on Thursday night issued a letter naming three people as mediators to end the deadlock with some demands.

The demands are the withdrawal of Central forces from Malkangiri, end of Operation Green hunt and the release of arrested Maoists.

The letter had been faxed to media houses.
