Operators must focus on data for revenue: Kapil Sibal

New Delhi  :  Telecom firms should in the long run focus on data services for their revenue, Communications Minister Kapil Sibal said Friday.

“In the ultimate analysis, the mindset of the telecom operators must change, it must move away from voice to data after all,” Sibal said on the sidelines of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Broadband Summit.

The minister said that currently much of the revenue of telecom players depended on voice and therefore it was time the industry moved in a direction where revenue should come from data and not from voice.

“The industry must move in that direction and in years to come I am not talking about today, talking to each other must not be taxed,” he added.
