The Indian Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has given clean chit to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, while severely indicting former Telecom Minister A Raja, with regards to 2G spectrum allocation scam in its draft report.
In its 270-page draft, the PAC, headed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Murli Manohar Joshi, has accused Raja for misleading Singh in the case.
The PAC has also questioned the role of the Prime Minister?s Office (PMO) in dealing in the 2G case.
According to sources, the PAC felt the PMO could have intervened in the 2G case much faster.
As per media reports, UPA members of the PAC are likely to dissent on the 2G report.
PAC draft report on 2G scam was circulated among its 22 members.
However, the draft does not put a figure on total loss incurred due to 2G scam.
The government’s auditor, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) released a mammoth Rs 1.76 lakh crore loss estimate from the spectrum swindle allegedly masterminded by Raja.
The current PAC’s term expires on April 30. The new PAC will also be headed by Joshi.
