PAC to decide on PM?s letter soon

Following Prime Minister Manmohan Singh?s letter expressing his preparedness to appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the 2G scam, the parliamentary body will soon take a decision on the matter.

PAC chairman Murli Manohar Joshi, after a meeting of the Committee on Monday, said the PAC will soon take a decision on the PM?s letter.

?The PAC has got a letter from the Prime Minister in which he has repeated his offer of appearing before the PAC if it wanted. His office has submitted documents which were asked for,? Joshi said.

?We will study it deeply and an appropriate decision will be taken at an appropriate time,? he added.

Sticking to him words, Singh on Monday wrote to the PAC, probing 2G spectrum allocation scam, that he is ready to appear before it and be quizzed.

The PM’s letter, addressed to Joshi, said he is ready to appear before it in connection to the 2G spectrum issue.

Joshi is the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which the main Opposition in India that is demanding to set up a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the 2G spectrum allocation in 2008.

The Opposition parties have been blaming Singh for averting the ‘real issue’ of the 2G scam and skirting the demand for the JPC.

They also alleged that the government did not want to sanction the JPC to investigate the 2G conspiracy – one that cost India 1.76 lakh crores, according to the government’s auditor, the Comptroller Auditor General (CAG).
