Petrol to go up Rs 2.54 per litre

State-run fuel companies in India are about to hike prices of petrol by upto Rs 2.54 starting Saturday midnight, reports said.

This hike comes in within a month of last when oil companies had raised prices by upto Rs 2.96 on Dec 15.

According to the reports, Indian Oil is raising prices by Rs 2.50 bringing it to Rs 58.37.

Bharat Petroleum is hiking prices by Rs 2.53 and Hindustan Petroleum by Rs 2.54, bringing it to Rs 58.39 in their stations.

The increase is said to be the result of another spike in international crude prices.

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) lambasted the United Progressive Alliance government for “riding roughshod over the interests of the people.”

“This cruel blow makes a mockery of all the assurances of the government to take steps to curb price rise. The people of this country will not take such burdens on them quietly,” it said.
