PM refers CWG scam report to CBI

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has referred the Shunglu Committee report on the alleged irregularities over the Commonwealth Games deals to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Supreme Court on Monday had asked the Central government to submit before it evidence against suspended public broadcaster Prasar Bharati?s CEO BS Lalli in alleged financial irregularities charges against him who is tangled in the case.

Lalli is facing allegations of irregularities in the Rs 246 crore deal struck by Prasar Bharati, which included the controversial decision to give the contract for broadcast of the Games to a UK-based firm SIS Live.

The Prime Minister Office on Friday said that he has also directed Prasar Bharti Director General Aruna Sharma, implicated by the Committee?s report along with Lalli, to be reverted to her home cadre of IAS (Indian Administrative Services) in Madhya Pradesh.

He has also asked the Information & Broadcasting Ministry to seek explanations from Lalli and and Sharma over the accusations made against them.

The Ministry has been further asked to review claims made by the SIS Live and ensure there was no over-payment. If over-payment is found then it has been directed to take appropriate action for recovery, after seeking due legal advice.
