Delhi set for riot of colours on Holi

New Delhi : People of Delhi are all set for festival of colours Holi Wednesday. Children and youths have already set the tone for festivities by throwing water-filled balloons at passersby, and colours and sweets are recording brisk sales.

“There is so much to shop today. I hope this Holi goes well and no untoward incident takes place,” said Namita Arora, a housewife.

People were thronging to markets in huge numbers Tuesday to purchase colour powders and water guns. Many were keen on buying only organic colours.

“I will only buy organic colours this time as normal colours cause skin irritation and rashes,” said Viplav Singh, a college student.

Mouth-watering gujiyas, a Holi specialty, were on display at almost all sweet shops.

“We have many varieties in sweets. This time, ‘pista gujiya’ is selling well. Though it is costly, people are buying,” said a sweet shop owner in East of Kailash.

Delhi Police intend to take tough action this Holi against traffic violators, particularly those caught for drunk driving.

Police have made elaborate traffic arrangements to ensure safety of motorists and check cases of drunk driving, over-speeding, riding without helmets and other offences.

Last Holi, over 8,500 people were prosecuted for various traffic violations.
