SC upholds poacher Sansar Chand’s jail term

New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld Rajasthan High Court decision sentencing poacher Sansar Chand to five years imprisonment for killing animals and smuggling parts of the carcasses.

The apex court, while rejecting Sansar Chand’s petition challenging his conviction and five year sentence, said ” you are now selling skins of tigers and leopards and tomorrow you would even sell human skin.”

The Rajasthan High Court had found him guilty of smuggling claws, skin, teeth and other animal parts in Bhilwara in 2003.

The apex court bench comprising Justices Markandey Katju and T S Thakur did not find merit in the appeal filed by Sansar Chand, who has been booked under dozens of cases under the Wildlife Act.
