Seizure of 952 tortoises from Indo- Bangladesh border

West Bengal : Paramilitary forces, the Border security force (BSF) seized 952 Star tortoises worth millions of dollars being smuggled across the border to Bangladesh for sale in the International market.

BSF authorities generated a specific intelligence input regarding smuggling of Indian Star Tortoise from India to Bangladesh in areas of Tentulberia, Police station-Gaighata, North 24 Pargana district of West Bengal.

Inspector general of BSF, south Bengal frontier, Santosh Mehra said on Monday that the tortoises were famous for various reasons and in demand in the international black market.
