UP gram pradhans election: 5 people lost their life

Lucknow: In the second phase of polling of gram pradhans, five people lost their life in Uttar Pradesh, officials said. Numerous incident of violence took place in polling.

During a booth capturing attempt in Gonda, an elderly person was shot dead. A woman was also killed in the violence.

In Meerut, two sects of the Muslim community fought pitched battles with each other while three policemen, including a senior official, were injured in Bahraich in a stone pelting incident.

Two people — an election officer and a homeguard — died during the polling following heart attacks.

Firing was also reported from Kishni in Mainpuri, Sikanderpur village in Firozabad and in Rewari.

Supporters of contestants fought with each other at a booth in Pilibhit, leaving four people injured.

Violence was also reported from Budayun, Aligarh, Shahjahanpur, Meerut, Gonda and Balrampur.
