UPA breaking up, brick by brick: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Thursday that the Congress-led government was falling apart, brick by brick, due to distrust with its key allies.

“There is no governance. The foundations of this government are being shaken, brick by brick,” BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu said here.

“It is a theatre of the absurd. This government today enjoys the stability of the graveyard,” he added.

Speaking amid a political turmoil over the Trinamool Congress demand that Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi’s rail fare hike be scrapped, Naidu said the Congress lacked the ability to run a multi-party coalition.

“The essence of governance, particularly in the age of coalition politics, is leadership, decisiveness, credibility, trust between allies.

“The trust is missing. There is distrust, mistrust, division, dissension, divergence.

“The developments of the last few days have shown that the government has failed on all these counts.”

Naidu said that while one minister from Uttarakhand (Harish Rawat) had resigned, the position of Trivedi was not known.

“Congress has violated the basic dharma of coalition by breaking the trust with its allies,” he said.
