Uproar in parliament over Ayodhya march ban

New Delhi : Both houses of parliament saw repeated adjournments Monday following noisy protests by BJP memebers over the Uttar Pradesh government not allowing the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Ayodhya march and the SP protesting against an attack on its office here.

The Rajya Sabha saw two adjournments during the question hour before being adjourned till 2 p.m.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members sought to register their protest over the ban on the VHP’s “84 kosi parikrama yatra” by the Akhilesh Yadav government, while SP members continued to shout slogans over the attack on their party office.

Samajwadi Party (SP) members sought to repeatedly raise in the house the issue of vandalisation of its party office in Delhi Sunday.

Chairperson Hamid Ansari repeatedly requested the members to allow the house to run.

As pandemonium continued, the house was first adjourned for 15 minutes and then till noon.

When the house met, the SP members were again on their feet raising slogans against the BJP. Many BJP members also got up from their seats.

In the din, Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien adjourned the house till 2 p.m.

Naresh Agrawal of the SP later accused the BJP of the attack on the party office.

“The way party office was attacked, anything could have happened. Delhi Police has so far not registered a FIR. The BJP and Congress are one on this,” Agrawal told IANS.

In the Lok Sabha, the Samajwadi Party (SP) moved a notice for suspending question hour to discuss the attack on its office.

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar requested it to take up the matter in zero hour but SP members resorted to sloganeering.

Following this, the speaker allowed the Samajwadi Party to speak on the matter.

But chaos prevailed as many members started speaking, forcing the speaker to adjourn the house till noon.

When the house met at noon, Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and BJP’s Yogi Aditya Nath respectively spoke on the VHP march and the attack on the SP office.

Janata Dal-United leader Sharad Yadav made a critical reference to the VHP, leading to a din in the house.

As the noisy scenes continued, the house was adjourned till 2 p.m.
