Election Commission has echoed voice of nation by issuing notice to BSP on large-scale misuse of government-money in installing numerous statues of its election-symbol ?elephant? evidently for political gain at government-expense. Decision comes as a relieving surprise after Supreme Court surprisingly declined to interfere in wasting of enormous amount of public-money by UP Chief Minister Mayawati in installing statues of herself, her political mentors, favourites and party-symbol of her party with helpless public mutely bearing all these.
Other constitutional authorities like Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) should also utilise their power to check such over-ambitious political rulers from wastage of public-money on publicity of themselves and their parties by deeds like installing, de-installing and re-stalling statues.
