33 dead in UN plane crash in Congo
A lone person survived Monday?s plane crash in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in which 33 others were killed.
The victims included United Nations staff, peacekeepers, NGO members and crew of the plane.
The identity of the survivor is not known yet, reports said.
The United Nations plane had crashed on Monday as it attempted to land at the main civilian airport in the capital of the DRC.
The plane had been traveling from the north-eastern city of Kisangani and was trying to land in Kinshasa, according to Pelle Kipela Mondo, deputy editor-in-chief of Radio Okapi, which is co-managed by the UN peacekeeping mission in the DRC (known as MONUSCO).
Media reports indicate that the crash occurred about 1 p.m. local time and that there was torrential rain in Kinshasa at the time.
