At least 75 people are reported dead in the earthquake that hit Myanmar-Thailand border late Thursday evening.
The toll is likely to rise that authorities are still to reach remote areas where road or other forms of communications were cut off due to the quake.
The worst impact was on the Myanmar side where hundreds of buildings reportedly collapsed.
However, reports from the junta-controlled regime of Myanmar are scant and not completely reliable. Hence, it is apprehended that the actual loss figures could be much higher.
A strong earthquake rocked northern Myanmar Thursday night, with tremors felt in neighboring Thailand and Laos as well.
The earthquake measured 6.7 on the Richter scale and struck at 7.25 pm (IST). It was just 10 kms deep.
Epicentred at 20.9 degree North and 99.9 degree East, the tremors were felt as far as Thai capital Bangkok (about 770 kms south of the epicenter).
No tsunami warning was issued as the epicenter was located too far inland.
