Plane crash in Nepal kills 22

Kathmandu : The wreckage of a twin-otter airplane, which was carrying 22 people and went missing on Wednesday, was found killing all the occupants, police said Thursday.

The Tara Air Twin Otter plane took off on Wednesday from Lamidanda airport, some 160 kms east of Kathmandu and was heading to Kathmandu when the accident happened as its wreckage was found on a hillside in eastern Nepal’s Himalayan foothills.

The wreckage was found early on Thursday morning by a party, who had halted a search operation last night. The plane was carrying 19 passengers and three crew.

Tara Air said one of the passengers was an American citizen while the rest were believed to be Nepalese nationals. A Bhutanese identity card was also found from site of the wreckage. The victims were on a pilgrimage trip.
