Jakarta : An Australian airplane on Thursday made an emergency landing in Singapore after one of the four engines of the plane shut down.
An Airbus 380 of Australian national airline Qantas, with 500 passengers on board, was flying over western Indonesia when the engine shut down, Qantas officials said.
The plane returned to Singapore and made an emergency landing.
No person was hurt in the incident, the officials added.
The flight was en route from Singapore to Sydney.
Initial reports had suggested that there was an explosion in the plane as witnesses on Indonesian island of Batam said they heard a loud sound as the plane passed over.
Debris, with red coloring on it, was later recovered from the island.
Preliminary investigations have not indicated to any sabotage attempt, though the authorities are probing all aspects.
