Islamabad : At least 25 people were killed and 10 injured in Pakistan Thursday after unidentified gunmen attacked a passenger bus in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, reported RIA Novosti citing Pakistani media.
The gunmen ordered the passengers to get off the bus, examined their documents and then shot them, reported Urdu TV channel Dunya.
According to Aaj TV, at least 15 people were killed and several others injured as 10 to 15 unidentified gunmen ambushed three vans carrying passengers from Rawalpindi to Gilgit in the province’s Babu Sir area at about 11.00 a.m. Thursday, Xinhua reported.
The attackers, reportedly wearing army uniforms ordered the passengers to show their identity cards, then dragged out some of the passengers and opened indiscriminate firing at them.
The attackers fled from the scene after carrying out the attack. The incident happened in a far-flung area and it took four hours for the police and rescue teams to reach the site.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack till the last reports came in.
This is the second incident of bus attack in the area over the last six months. In February, a total of 18 people were killed and five injured in a passenger bus attack in Gilgit.
