Earthquake of 5.9 hits Pakistan

Islamabad: Earthquake of 5.9 on the Richter scale hits Pakistan, whose epicenter was at Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region .

Dawn online reported that the epicentre of the quake was detected at Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region.

However, the United States Geological Survey reported the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.0 and traced its origin to the Jarm region in Afghanistan.

Tremors were felt in Peshawar, Malakand, Mansehra, Haripur and Abbottabad.

No casualties have been reported yet.

This was the third quake to hit Pakistan since the beginning of 2016.

The northern areas of Pakistan were still reeling from a strong 7.5 magnitude quake which struck in October 2015, killing over 300 people both in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
