Karachi : A woman desperately looking for her husband found his mobile phone next to a charred body at a mortuary here – but she was still not sure whether he was amongst the 289 who died in the devastating fire that gutted a Karachi factory.
Waheeda had refused to leave the mortuary at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) here as she kept looking through the pile of bodies for her husband, Shafi Mohammad, reported Geo News.
She later recognised her husband from the mobile phone found beside his body.
“I still don’t know whether it’s him,” she wailed to a rescue worker.
The fire broke out at a garments factory in Karachi’s Baldia Town Tuesday, trapping the hundreds of people who were working inside at the time. At least 289 people were killed and the casualties could go up, fear officials.
