Pakistan pushes for Samjhauta update

Pakistan’s Foreign Office has summoned the acting Indian High Commissioner to seek details over the 2007 Samjhauta Express blast, media reports said on Monday.

The move comes in the wake of Swami Aseemanand, the main accused in the bombing case, purportedly confessing on the role of Hindu extremists in the incident.

Pakistan’s The Express Tribune said that Pakistan’s Foreign Office has drawn the attention of the Indian High commissioner to the reports of Aseemanand’s confession and asked the Indian government to respond at the earliest.

Sixty-eight Pakistani nationals were killed in the blast which, Aseemanand is said to have told a magistrate at a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court, was the handiwork of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activists.
