Pakistan suicide attack kills 50

Ghalanai (Pakistan) : Two suicide bombers dressed as policemen blew themselves up here on Monday killing at least 50 people and injuring over 100 in an act to quash anti-Taliban risings in northwest Pakistan?s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

The attack, which took place in the Mohmand Agency district, about 175 kms northwest of Islamabad, targeted the main government compound where a meeting between government officials, tribal elders and members of local anti-Taliban militia was underway, Pakistan?s Geo News reported.

According to reports, while one of the bombers blew himself up within the office of one of the officials, the other set off the explosives when apprehended by guards. Both the bombers were said to have come on motorbikes.

Authorities say the bombers had stuffed their suicide vests with bullets killing a large number of people, including two local journalists, on spot. It is being feared that the death toll could rise.

The attack comes in the wake of another similar attack in November that killed 67 people in the same militant-infested region where tribesmen are encouraged by the administration to from militias and oppose the Taliban.
