Islamabad : Charismatic allrounder Shahid Khan Afridi has been retained as captain to lead Pakistan in World Cup beginning Feb 19.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) late Thursday announced that 30-year-old Afridi will lead the country in the World Cup to be held in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, said Pakistan team manager Intikhab Alam.
Pakistan staged a scintillating comeback in the limited over cricket as they won an ODI series against Kiwis by 3-1 after 17 years in New Zealand.
The PCB had announced the names of a 15-man squad on Jan 18, but who will lead the country remained undecided till Thursday.
Shahid Afridi and Test skipper Misbahul Haq were the two contenders for leading the team in the World Cup.
