Yawar Saeed resigns Pak cricket team manager

Islamabad : Bowing to rising pressure after a scandal-wracked tour of England, Pakistan cricket team manager Yawar Saeed stepped down on Monday.

“Mr. Yawar Saeed has requested the Chairman PCB [Pakistan Cricket Board] to be relieved of his duties as Manager National Team. The Chairman has agreed to this request,” the PCB said in a statement here.

Yawar Saeed was appointed the manager after Pakistan’s Australia tour earlier this year in which the team performed miserably.

Pakistan is embroiled in the worst ever match-fixing scandal after three key players-Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir- were accused of indulging in spot-fixing in an expose by a British tabloid.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is probing the allegations.

Yawar Saeed is a former Pakistani cricketer who played 50 first-class matches for Somerset County Cricket Club and nine matches for a variety of teams based in Pakistan between 1953 and 1959.
