Blast in Davos near WEF hotel

Despite tight security, a small blast occurred in a hotel room near the venue of the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meet here on Thursday, but no one was hurt, Swiss police said.

The explosion in a store room shattered window panes in Post Hotel Morosani, said police after an investigation was launched.

A group called Revolutionary Perspective later in a statement posted on a website said it had triggered the blast in the hotel which is only about 1.5 km from the main venue in the Alpine ski resort of Davos.

The anti-WEF activists said they attacked the hotel with a firebomb device.

Reports said Swiss ministers and other officials of the bank UBS were staying in the hotel.

Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos was to attend a discussion over lunch there on organized crime, titled Criminals Without Borders.

The World Economic Forum is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
