Children in India celebrate ?Children?s Day?

Kolkata : Colourful events were held and children all over India made merry while celebrating ?Children?s Day? on Sunday, which also marked the birthday of Pandit Jwaharlal Nehru, the country’s first Prime Minister.

The day assumes special significance in India with Nehru being identified with children, for whom he had extreme love.

Fondly called ‘Chacha Nehru'(Uncle Nehru) by his little admirers, he had worked passionately for betterment of children and youngsters soon after independence.

He was keen about welfare, education, and development of children in India.

Sweets,fancy dresses, fun and frolicks and interesting games become part of the the celebration of the day.

The day also makes the adults remember once again their commitments towards children and their welfare.

The celebrities of B-Town wished children and all their fans on this beautiful occasion over Twitter.

Interestingly, ?Children?s Day? is celebrated on different dates in different countries.

The Universal Children’s Day takes place on November 20 annually.

First proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954, it was established to encourage all countries to institute a day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world’s children.

It was also chosen as the day to celebrate childhood.

In Pakistan, Children’s Day is celebrated on November 20 while it is observed on October 1 in Singapore and on May 27 in Nigeria.
