BJP demands criminal case against Chidambaram
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday demanded a criminal case be filed against Home Minister P. Chidambaram for his alleged role in Delhi Police’s midnight crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramadev and his assembled followers at the Ramlila ground last year.
BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi made the demand a day after the Supreme Court’s censure of the government for arbitrarily and forcefully ending the yoga guru’s Ramlila ground agitation on the issue of black money in June 2011.
“When the incident occurred last year, the home minister had justified the lathicharge and firing of tear-gas shells on the sleeping crowds, which even resulted in the death of an innocent woman,” Naqvi told reporters here.
“The home minister, now, can’t dissociate himself from the incident and a criminal case should be registered against him,” Naqvi added.
