Congress core committee to discuss Kashmir

New Delhi : A day after a marathon all-party meet failed to reach any consensus on the Kashmir crisis, the Congress Core Committee is meeting on Thursday to discuss the issue.

The ruling party’s top body, which includes party chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is scheduled to meet late on Thursday evening to deliberate on the Kashmir situation.

This would be the second time in two weeks that the Congress Core Committee is meeting over the same issue.

Earlier in the day, Union minister and J&K’s ruling party National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah met the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi in separate meetings.

It is not learnt yet what was discussed during the meetings.

An over five-hour-long all-party meet to discuss the Kashmir issue on Wednesday decided to send a team to the trouble-torn Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting failed to reach at any consensus on a possible solution to the crisis, including whether the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) should be partially withdrawn.

At least 89 people have been killed in the Valley since mid-June.
