The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Saturday announced that they have successfully test-fired indigenously developed Astra – Beyond-Visual-Range Air-to-Air Missile- at Chandipur in Orissa.
“The missile was test-fired around 1032 hrs from the Integrated Test Range. The trial was successful,” said DRDO sources.
The 3.8-metre long missile has a 178 mm diameter and weighs 160 kg.
Astra, which can be launched from different altitudes, has the ability to destroy enemy aircraft in the head-on mode at a range of 80 km and in tail-chase mode at 20 km.
