Air India win Beighton Hockey
Kolkata : Air India for the first time clinched the Beighton Cup Hockey title dethroning Indian Oil 2-1 in the summit clash at SAI Centre’s astro turf ground at Salt Lake here on Wednesday.
Virendra Lakhra and Vikram Pillay hit the board for airmen in the 12th and 34th minutes, while D K Raghu reduced the margin for former champions Indian Oil following a penalty corner in the 38th minute.
The winners were given a cheque of Rs 1.5 lakh and the vanquished got Rs 1 lakh cheque.
Whilst Vikram Pillay was adjudged man of the tournament for his outstanding scoring ability, his Air India colleague was man-of-the
match.
For third spot tie last year’s runners up South Central Railway defeated Punjab SC 5-1.
West Bengal’s sports minister Kanti Ganguly distributed the prizes.
