Guangzhou : India’s top paddlers Achanta Sharath Kamal and Subhajit Saha progressed to the men’s doubles quarterfinal of the Asian Games table tennis here on Tuesday.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist pair of Sharath Kamal and Saha outclassed Husain Albahrani and Mansour Alenezy of Kuwait 3-0 in their opening round encounter.
The Indian pair needed just 12 minutes to get the better of their Kuwaiti counterpart with a scoreline of 11-7 11-4 11-4. They will now face the South Korean pair of Jungwoo Lee and Sang Eun Oh.
However, there was some heartbreak for India as Soumyadeep Roy and Anthony Amalraj lost their first round doubles matches to South Koreas Yuk Cheung and Li Ching.
Roy and Amalraj lost 5-11 5-11 7-11 in mere 13 minutes.
In the mixed doubles, Sharath Kamal and Kumaresan Shamini lost 12-10 4-11 11-8 2-11 6-11 to Seiya Kishikawa and Ai Fukuhara of Japan in the pre-quarterfinals.
