IPL: Bombay HC stays Kings XI termination

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday stayed the termination of Kings XI Punjab franchise from the Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to reports, the court said prima facie Kings XI has a case.

Earlier, on Nov 30, the termination order for Rajasthan Royals franchise from the IPL was stayed by six weeks by arbitrator Justice B N Srikrishna.

Cracking the whip, the Governing Council of the IPL on Oct 10 terminated the contracts of two glamour franchisees – Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab, sending tectonic tremors in the cash-rich annual event.

“It was unanimously decided that the Franchise agreements with K.P.H. Dream Cricket Pvt. Ltd. [Kings XI Punjab] and Jaipur IPL Cricket Pvt. Ltd. [Rajasthan Royals] be terminated forthwith based on the Legal opinions obtained by BCCI in the matters,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had said in a media release.
