India eves manage a draw against Scotland in hockey
India eves managed a 1-1 draw against Scotland in the Pool A hockey match of the Commonwealth Games here on Monday.
Scotland took a surprise lead through Holly Cram in the third minute of the day, but the Melbourne Games silver medalist struck through Jasjeet Handa in the 45th minute at the historic Major Dhyanchand National Stadium.
Much was expected from India?s teenage star striker Rani Rampal, highest scorer in last month?s World Cup at Argentina in Rosario, but she failed to create magic in front of the spirited Canadian team.
The 15-year-old Rani rued the missed chance that came India?s way.
“Today we missed several chances. We need to improve our finishing. We have a crucial game against Australia and before that we have fine tune our weaker areas,? she said.
Cram said playing the game in the evening helped her team to put up a spirited performance.
“Thankfully, we were not playing in the afternoon. Today, we created several chances and played ferociously. We are disappointed with the results because we had chances to score more goals”.
In another Pool B match in the women?s section, Norbaini Hashim struck twice as Malaysia won 3-2 against higher-ranked Canada.
