Commonwealth Games Federation Chief Michael Fennell is happy that athletes and delegates are practicing safe sex as about 3500 condoms, which is half of the current stock, have been dispensed from the vending machine put up by the health department inside the Games Village.
Terming it as a ‘positive thing’, Fennell said it good to know that the athletes are pursuing safe sex.
?Keeping condom vending machine could be a thing of controversy earlier, but now now. Promoting safe sex is a responsible thing to do,? said Fennell.
At present, about 6800 athletes and delegates from 71 countries are staying at the Games Village. All those who want condoms just have to visit the Village poly clinic where the vending machine is kept.
Even though the CWG boss expresses his satisfaction about residents practicing safe sex, sweepers have to work extra hours as the used condoms are reportedly strewn all around, with some even choking the Village toilets.
Fennell, however, thinks differently and said: ?If that is happening, it shows condoms are being used; which means, the athletes are becoming responsible.?
When the condom vending machines were installed at the Games Village, there was uproar from certain quarters . But the health authorities here maintained that it was required to promote ‘safe sex’ campaign.
