Referee was unfair to me: Vijender Singh
Indian boxer Vijender Singh, who was favourite to win the 75 kg bout but had to settle for a bronze, alleged that the referee was unfair to give him a warning with just 15 seconds to go in the semi-final bout which he lost against Anthony Ogogo of England.
Interacting with reporters here on Wednesday, Beizing Olympic bronze medalist Vijender also criticised the Indian boxing federation for not protesting when the referee were unfair to other Indian boxers as well in earlier bouts.
Vijender , who looked aggrieved, said, ”If the federation lodged its protests when the other Indian boxers were victim of such unfair verdict, perhaps I would not have to face such decision by the referee.
Vijender said, ? in the last round when I was leading 3-0 points. I was given a warning for foul. My opponent also made foul but he was spared. Moreover, according to rules, warning cannot be given during the last 30 seconds, ” he said.
?However, whatever happened has happened. Losing in the semi final here is not the end of the world for me. Winning or losing is all part of the game. Though it pains to be a victim of unfair decision, I?m getting over it and have started my practice in right earnest to prepare myself for the coming Asian games and then for 2011 London Olympics, ” Vijender said.
Vijender said there is lots of difference in the standard of boxing in the Asian games and CWG.
” We will have to adjust accordingly. I also have to further improve on my footwork?. In major international meets, I have so far had to settle for the bronzes. But I will definitely try my best to get a gold in the Guagnjhow Asiad,” the top Indian boxer added.
