Suresh Kalmadi apologizes for lack ofcoordination
Chairman of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organaising Committee Suresh Kalmadi on Tuesday extended his apology for lack of coordination which led to the Australian contingent waiting for more than an hour in hot and humid weather before the opening ceremony.
Replying to a question at the media interaction at the Games main press centre on Tuesaday, Kalmadi admitted: ?Something went wrong and Australian athletes had to wait. I extend my apology for the same.”
Kalmadi assured that this ‘won?t happen again’ during the closing ceremony.
Earlier, CWG Federation President Michael Fennel expressed his concern about some of the venues where competitions are being held virtually with no spectators.
?We, in Commonwealth Games Fedeartion, as well as the athletes like spectators to watch the performance during the competition,” he said.
Fennel suggested that younger ones who are willing but can?t afford to buy the tickets could be given the opportunity to watch the competition.
Kalmadi informed that efforts are being made by the organizing in this regard.
He informed that total of six lakh tickets for various events of the Games have already been sold.
Many journalists feel that the lack of attendance in many of the venues was mainly due to security hassle and also because some events like netball and lawn bowling are not at all popular in India.
Fennel reiterated that the opening ceremony of the Games was spectacular one and appreciated people of Delhi for praising the athletes when they arrived at the stadium for the march-past during the opening ceremony.
