First India-Australia ODI washed out

Kochi : The first tie of the three-match one-day international series between India and Australia, was abandoned after pounding rains overflowed the venue at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday.

Soggy conditions delayed the toss and the umpires inspected the conditions at 9:00 am but found the areas near the bowlers run-up and a few parts near the boundary lines quite damp.

They decided to carry out another inspection at 11:00 am to make a final call.

But the rains began again at about 10 a.m., forcing the match to be abandoned.
