Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders’ skipper Gautam Gambhir is likely to miss the first few matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to jaundice.
The opening batsman was in contention to replace the injured Shikhar Dhawan for the fourth and the final Test in Delhi but was ruled out after he was detected with jaundice Tuesday.
He has been advised three-week rest.
Dhawan will also miss a few matches in IPL.
South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis or New Zealand’s wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon McCullum may don the captain’s hat in Gambhir’s absence.
Dhawan has been advised six weeks rest and will miss some IPL matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Dhawan sustained a fracture in his left hand during the Mohali Test and was ruled out of the fourth Test against Australia.
IPL will be played from April 3 to May 26.
