Disappointed see Eden not hosting crucial clash: Steve Waugh

Eminent cricketers like Kapil Dev and Steve Waugh said that they were disappointed to see that the crucial India-England match was removed from Kolkata’s Eden Gardens stadium.

“It is shame that India-England match was removed from here, it is sorry for the people that they are not getting important matches here, Kolkata deserved better,” former Australian skipper Steve Waugh said.

India’s only World Cup captain, Kapil Dev feels that the Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) also shares responsibility and blame for not being able to prepare the stadium in time.

“Board should have taken up the matter and completed the stadium earlier,” he said.

“I am not supporting CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) president or BCCI, everybody should have come together to host a match,” Dev mentioned.

Kapil Dev also said since Eden Gardens is an important venue the ‘personal agenda’ should not hae come in hosting natches in this stadium.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) took away the India-England tie for February 27 from Eden after its inspection team said the stadium was under prepared for hosting a World Cup match.

Without Team India being given any match in the city, Eden is scheduled to host three WC matches – South Africa-Ireland (March 15), Netherlands-Ireland (March 18) and Zimbabwe-Kenya (March 20).
